“Seeing Through the eye of”

In the age of infinite reproduction, photography is losing its impact on our aesthetic experience. Accustomed to seeing everything: color, black and white, motion, with a furtive eye; nothing marks us, nothing really moves us anymore. The magic moment of the shutter is essential for the photographer that seeks to experience the moment: “wandering the streets, looking at the sky, the balconies or the garbage.” Words do not always permit us to share our opinions, our points of view, our feelings. In this sense, photography can let a person find themselves in their own gaze and share a profound part of who they are with the outside world. I wish to reflect on the experience of photography.

BIOGRAPHIE LONGUE

Originally from Aix-en-Provence (France), Cécile pursued studies in art and cinema in her hometown. After obtaining her two degrees (2010), she was accepted for a one-year exchange program at the Université de Montréal (Canada) for a master’s degree in Cinematography. Following this experience, Cécile decided to return to her region to specialize in management of cultural organizations. She attended courses in management, economy, law, governance (functions in public institutions), management of NPOs and projects.

To further complete her studies, Cécile returned to Montreal to study in management of non-profit organizations in Quebec. She did her research at the Darling Foundry to write her dissertation (2012), while working for the organization’s 10-year fundraising and the management of new files for artists’ residencies. After her research was completed, Cécile was hired at the Conseil des métiers
d’art du Québec. Under the supervision of the Artistic Director of Galerie CRÉA, CMAQ, she was involved in various mandates allowing her to participate in the SOFA Chicago art fair, the François Houdé Prize, and the Salon des métiers d’art du Québec in Montreal (2012 And 2013). She also helped in the preparation of temporary exhibitions within the gallery (the next generation of art glass in Québec, etc.).
Cécile continues her professional path by working in photography and video training management and then in communication for an NPO that supports artists. At the same time, she is taking training in business start-up to materialize a project that is important to her: promoting emerging photographic artists. This project will last two years, but she must return to France and put this project on hold.

In 2018, Cécile returns to her hometown. She spends time with her family. At the end of the year, she joins the team of the Center Photographique Marseille, ready to open its new venue. After a year working in France, Cécile feels the need to strengthen her knowledge of French administration. She returns to school while working for an accounting firm specializing in NPO and artist-authors. Cécile is currently living and working in Paris.
